Paul Randle

Moxie’s C.V: Director of Operations for Moxie’s franchisee, Eatz Enterprises. Looks after eight restaurants in Ontario and four in Winnipeg.

What he does: Involved in every part of the business. Looks at leases, helps plan and execute expansion, manages and coaches regional mangers, and “gets results.”

Role of lightning in bringing him to Moxie’s: Paul was working as a server at a restaurant (not a Moxie’s) for five years when it was struck by lightning and burned to the ground.  He crossed the street from the charred mass of his former workplace, started with Moxie’s, and hasn’t looked back.

Big Break: After working as a server for a year he became a manager in ‘96, then a GM two years later.  He bought his first stake in a restaurant in 2000. Is now a partner in six Ontario Moxie’s.

How he shares the love: Sold small ownership shares to family members. “They did well. They love Moxie’s!”

Big cool achievement: Was a leader on the team that opened five restaurants in 13 months. In addition to all the building and equipment issues, this meant hiring 700 people (including 35 fulltime managers). Wow.

Why he chose the restaurant biz over becoming an accountant: “I love the culture of the business and the company. Plus I get great job satisfaction.”

What he wants you to know about the biz: “It’s never boring. Everyday is different!”

Biggest perk: Annual “Run for the Sun“ trip to Mexico—a chance to kick back in the sun and surf with other managers from his franchise group.

Philosophy: “Get better everyday.”

Non-work interests: Time spent with wife and three kids. Loves hockey; plays for team called the “Juggernauts.”  Plays on Moxie’s softball team.

Successful recruiting tactic: “I look for people like me, and I tell them my story.” Simple!

Big Goal: Open more restaurants. Become a partner in more restaurants.
